A dedicated sourcing division

In order to meet demand from the market while at the same time retaining control over the organic quality of our fruit and vegetables, back in the early years of ProNatura we set up our own "sourcing" unit.

This today employs around 10 people who carry the following tasks through all our sites:

  • Finding or establishing new sources of sustainable, viable and high-quality production, from our sites in France, Belgium, Spain, Morocco or Togo.
  • Anywhere else, establishing well-balanced partnerships with producers able to take on board our quality policy.

In Europe, the fruit and vegetables are obtained from the main production areas in France (Provence, Brittany, the South West and the Rhône Valley, etc.), Spain and Italy. Elsewhere in the world, they are chiefly grown in Morocco, West Africa (Togo, Burkina Faso, Senegal, Ghana or the Cameroon), or in America.

The ripening process for organic bananas
Bananas take several weeks to travel by boat from the production areas (in Central America and Africa) to the end markets. Consequently, these are harvested when still green in the banana plantations in order to better withstand transportation and to slow down the natural ripening process. Upon arrival, they are ripened in special ripening chambers in order to obtain the uniform degree of ripeness and colour.
